Hard to believe 7 years ago this was the scene playing out as we dropped our son off for grade 1. Today, my grade 8’er zoomed away on his bike with a wave and a smile, and my grade 10’er got picked up by a friend.
The days are long but the years are short. Enjoy the ride.

And here is the offending piece.

I’d brought it in to Bow Valley Basics as we were after the exact same size and the exact same colour and the staff remarked they’d never seen one so well… used. They asked to keep it. I agreed. Back at home we had a short lecture on presenting ourselves in a way that reflects our desire to learn and positive self image. It was met with eye rolling and sighs. Let the new school year begin!
A HUGE thank you to Jon Vroman and his Front Row Dads Podcast as we had an amazing chat about life, fatherhood and art. Jon does some amazing work with a charity he created called Front Row Foundation that creates incredible once-in-a-lifetime experiences for kids and adults with life-threatening illnesses by giving them a Front Row experience at the live event of their dreams, and then helps the recipient and their family to use that experience as a metaphor to live every day of their lives — in the front row. He added to his busy schedule by creating Front Row Dads, a site to help dads become the best fathers and husbands they can be (among many other things!).

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. A home renovation, multiple gigs and a great visit to Ontario are my excuses… what I did get from being away were three fun new illustrations that I created on my iPad Pro using a Procreate, a fantastic digital drawing tool that I’ve just started experimenting with. Below are three illustrations that capture some good times at Lake Huron.
Water football has long been a favourite spectator sport for seagulls.

Hunting for beach glass is one of life’s simple pleasures.

We play a game we call “Godzilla” which really just amounts to wresting around in the water, but it’s wicked fun.

She raises a good point… Are all parents therefore insane?
We have a responsibility each and every day to be the best father and partner we can be in raising our kids. Loving our kids is part and parcel with loving and respecting their moms. Showing up, being present and modelling the kind of behaviour we would like our kids to emulate comes with the job but don’t forget to enjoy the process. Life moves quickly – take a moment this Father’s Day to appreciate all that you have in being a dad and spend some time with the people that make up your family. They, and you, are worth the effort.
Happy Father’s Day.

And a big thank you to my beautiful wife for her wisdom and steady hand…

I thought pets were supposed to help chill you out…

Not the answer I was expecting but in hindsight should have…
